DES MOINES BLM STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH PORTLAND PROTESTS
Des Moines BLM shares its solidarity with those protesting for Black lives and victims of police brutality around the United States as well as the world.
Today, July 25th, is a day for direct action and solidarity with protests in Portland, Oregon which faces a brutal invasion of armed federal forces in retaliation for their continued efforts to resist the racist police state. These unwelcome and illegal occupations are scheduled to expand to Chicago, Kansas City and New York City by the Trump Administration. These occupations are being used to discourage Americans from exercising their 1st amendment rights and hold inevitable 4th, 5th and 6th amendment issues.
While Des Moines BLM will not be demonstrating in the streets today, we recognize the dire urgency of this moment and encourage all supporters of the movement for Black Lives to take whatever action possible today, large or small, to make sure that the voices of Black people and Black communities are amplified.
We will be hosting an educational protest training at Easter Lake Park at 1 pm today in preparation for the inevitability that we will have to continue to take to the streets in order to ensure that Black Lives Matter and that our freedoms remain intact.
Power to the People. Black Lives Matter.
